Evesham under 10's travelled to Shipston for the traditional season opener, to play in a mini festival comprising of 2 teams from Shipston and 1 from Claverdon.
With a massive squad of 24 players attending, Evesham fielded two strong teams.
This season brings many new rules and skills for the players to take on board and master. Both the players and coaches have been working hard to prepare for another exciting season.
Evesham Blues showed they had been listening in their first game against Shipston 1, blowing the host team away 9 - 0 including a Will Gilderson hat trick.
Next up for the Blues were Shipston 2. Evesham continued to show they know where the try line is, crossing 8 times. However Shipston scored 5 of their own, in an entertaining game.
Last to face the Blues were Claverdon . This was to prove a classic encounter between two strong teams. Both teams showed great commitment in the tackle and ruck area, restricting the try count to two tries each in a trilling match.
Meanwhile Evesham Maroons also played Shipston 1 in their opening game, also hitting the ground running scoring 6 tries to nil. Hamish Cross grabbing a brace.
Shipston 2 proved to be a tough opponents in the second game Evesham tasted defeat for the first time, going down 3-2.
With legs beginning to tiring, it was decided that Shipston would play one half against Claverdon, and Evesham maroons play the second half. Not an ideal situation, and so it was to prove as Claverdon were on a roll scoring 4 tries to 1.
All the players contributed in some way through the day. With 28 tries scored by 14 different players.
Evesham welcome near neighbours Bredon to Avon Street next Sunday.
