Evesham 6 : Stow 3

Well done to everyone from both sides today - players, parents and coaches for venturing out into the wind and rain and braving the cold, all in the name of rugby. Anyone can do Sunday morning when they can feel their fingers and toes, today was character building.

Evesham took both teams, Blues and Maroons, 800 feet closer to the clouds to face Stow.

Game 1 – Maroons v Stow
Two sides of 10 to keep everyone moving, 10 minutes each way saw Stow moving the ball through the hands well and competing at the ruck, Evesham displayed resilient defence in return.

A well executed try from James Hoare in the first half and two strong running tries from Oli Wycherley in the second were answered by three in return from Stow. Final score Maroons 3 : Stow 3.

Game – 2 Blues v Stow
Stow stayed out in the weather as a very clean looking Blues side emerged from the clubhouse. Tom Davis swapped a blue shirt for the black of Stow to even up the numbers and played some determined rugby in attack and defence for his adopted side.

First half tries from Archie ‘Sidestep’ Johnson and Jack Lane from a scorching run, together with a third in the second half from Hamish Cross were unanswered only due to solid defensive work by Blues as they faced a determined onslaught from Stow. The conditions started to take their toll with retirements from both sides as the game progressed. Final Score Blues 3: Stow 0

Thank you to Stow for having us at short notice and for staying out so both Evesham sides got a game. The three sides are evenly matched, we look forward to equally enjoyable fixtures in the future.
