*Match report by Rob Mullen*

I am not sure it was the best day to hand over the match reporting duties to a Welshman !

Despite the dark clouds circling over Twickenham, the sun was shining on Sunday morning in the Vale, when a particularly sharp looking Evesham U12 squad took on the might of Bredon.

Starting 12:

Front row – Sanger-Davis / Hopkins / Thomas

Second row – Merrall / Cross

Scrum half – Aris

Outside half – Gilderson

Centres – Brett / Hoare

Backs – LeMezac / Stone / Wycherley

Bench – Duberley / Smith / Neal / Mullen / Wright

1st half – 11:04 kick-off

Evesham were on the attack from the whistle and they really took the game to Bredon.

Excellent work from the Evesham forwards at the breakdown and it wasn’t long before the ball was quickly flying down our back line.

We didn’t have to wait for long before Wycherley managed to break through the Bredon defence to get our first try (11:08).

The Evesham pack looked very comfortable in the scrum and put in a lot of good work.

Serge put in some very impressive tackles on the wing and stopped a number of dangerous counter attacks from the Bredon team.

Confidence was growing in the Evesham back line with the ball being passed skilfully through hands, leading to another Wycherley try.

The Bredon team looked very much on the back foot as they were being battered by phase after phase of Evesham attack.

Then came a crashing run from Wycherley who bludgeoned his way through the Bredon defence to score his hatrick (11:21).

The Bredon team (and the coaching community) were now starting to get a little riled, but once again some solid work from the Evesham forwards prevented them getting the upper hand, and they were unable to stop a blistering charge from Gilderson who sealed the 4 : 0 half-time score (11:24).

2nd Half – 11:36

Evesham again started well, putting the Bredon lads under pressure right from the off.

After a stern talking to at half time, the Bredon team looked more purposeful in the second half and stepped-up their game.

But once again Evesham were dominant at the breakdown and it wasn’t long before the Bredon defence succumbed to the power of our front row and Hopkins powered over the line to secure the try (11:39)

A bruised Bredon team quickly collected themselves and responded with an impressive phase of attack, resulting in a well deserved try (11:39).

Evesham didn’t like conceding any points and our boys once again raised their game. It was a pleasure to see some of the training drills creeping into our game.

Soon Hopkins was at it again, busting through the Bredon defence to score his second try (11:44).

Brett put in some great work with a number of powerful runs that shook the Bredon back line.

All subs got some game time in the second half and all put in a great shift.

Final score – Evesham 30 : Bredon 5

Overall it was a great start to the season and a very solid performance from the Evesham team.

We are all very proud of the team and we look forward to a very successful U12 season.

Thanks to Ed for refereeing under a challenging set of circumstances.

JB – this is much more difficult that it looks !!!!

Man of the match – Wycherley for a great hatrick

Amy’s tackler of the week - Cross

Apologies for the spelling / grammar (I am an Engineer – all numbers !)

On behalf of the Welsh nation, we look forward to your continued support in the RWC 2015 - Cymru Am Byth

A few votes of thanks from the coaching team;

Thank you to all parents who came down to the club early to help with Match Day Management. I think we had almost a full house, so names are too numerous to mention. However, special thanks to the sweepers who produced a changing room which hasn't been as clean for a number of years. We also had a personal thanks from the club chairman, who commented on the military precision with which the car parks were run. I won't embarrass them by name, but Sarah and Becky now who they are.

Coaches coffee run expertly performed by OJ and Rob.

Touchline superbly run (walked?) by OJ.

A fantastic match report by our new, permanent, scribe "Mighty Senior".

Finally, of course, the players. Parents may also have noticed that, with no coach input, they took responsibility for their own warm up and team huddle.

We have created a monster. Long may it continue!
