Nice day for it

Evesham U12 welcomed Worcester on Sunday as a late replacement for the scheduled Cheltenham game. Near perfect conditions, sun out with a bit of a breeze and ground in surprisingly good nick.

Most rewarding to see the lads arrange themselves into a warm-up led by the more senior players, also great to see Tom ‘Slate’ Stone back and keen as ever. I had heard lots about ‘the scar’ so I was expecting a proper slash gangsta-stylie, the reality was rather disappointing, it is barely noticeable and was certainly overshadowed by the most ferocious of haircuts. Welcome back Slate.

Evesham Line Up. 1. Olly Neal 2. Cake 3. Carpet 4. BTM 5. Bretty 9. Rocky 10. Serge 11. Joel 12. Hagrid 13. Jamie Overalls 14. James and 15. Slate. This week’s fresh legs for game 2 were Indie, Gentleman-George, Smiffy and Ears Pearce.

Game 1 – First Half
Both sides a decent match up across the 3rd team pitch, Worcester had a visibly lighter squad with fast hands and pace as the plan, something in the Evesham air ‘breeds em bigger’ and so direct running and the forwards mantra of ‘stick it under your arm and hit em with your face’ served us well. Fifteen minutes was over far too soon, try to BTM who was unstoppable on a charge and a try to Serge from a jinky, slinky bit of gaelic enterprise below knee height. Evesham 2 : Worcester 0

Game 1 – Second Half
Rucking, as ever, was the key to possession in the second half, Worcester strung together passes through the back line to score 2, Evesham used the braun of BTM and Bretty to batter the defensive line for one each. Game 1 final score 4:2 to the hosts.

Game 2 – First Half
After a discussion about ref duties it was decided to invite Worcester to ref Game 2. Evesham rang the changes and brought on the fresh legs, first half saw Hagrid over off a rangy run in the centres and Worcester cross for 1 in the corner. HT 1:1.

Game 2 – Second Half
Worcester first to score, this fired up all the Evesham lads, non more so than Bretty who got his pants in a bunch and decided to let them have it, crashing through the line for one and then a second with the help of BTM enroute. Game 2: Evesham 3 : Worcester 2

EVERYONE played well, modest areas to improve upon of course but everyone stuck to the task and were rewarded with the fair result on the day. Evesham 7 : Worcester 4.

Aimees award for best tackle: For a try saver in the right corner at last man – Slate.
MoM: For an ever present shift in the rucks to secure ball for Evesham and providing forward momentum plus 3 tries - Bretty.
