.....and find Evesham half asleep

With Ed serving life at a swimming gala it left us short of a ref and with Tewkesbury visiting we press-ganged 20 to run about with the whistle. I have to say the Ginger Prince did a sterling job, considered in his judgement and clear in his explanation of the decisions to the lads. Congratulations 20, you passed the audition and got the job as deputy whistler in case Ed is not around.

We have winning days and learning days, Sunday was definitely a learning day and we learned several things.

Lesson 1 – One fixture a weekend is plenty – the lads who played on Friday night were as drowsy as it is possible to be and still stand up, this was echoed in the rugby
Lesson 2 – If you don’t look after the ball you will lose it – Evesham were ripped far too easily far too often – protecting the ball will be addressed in training
Lesson 3 – Target the ball – Tewkesbury gave us a schoolin’ in targeting the ball in contact – this will also be addressed in training

JB was watching the U11 and his request for volunteers to write up the U12 was met with more laughs than his match reports ever get so in summary we played a few games, there were some tries scored, Tewkesbury scored more than we did and then we all ate sausages.

There was however one moment worthy of note. Last game, Tewkesbury on a break down the right wing, all but through with Cake in hot pursuit. Cake takes the player out into touch at pace, the combined mass of 2x12 year olds like a Barnes-Wallis prototype careered into the crowd and took Mrs Wycherley’s legs clean out from under her. The dads and coaches reacted instantly and laughed themselves to a standstill before any assistance could be offered. Luckily no one was hurt, thank goodness for all the padding.

Man of the Match: For withstanding significant pressure at 9 and making a grimace look like a smile – Mighty Mullen
Tackle of the Match: A contender on Friday night too, Big Tom Merrall (BTM) continued to knock em over and win Aimee's Award

Training on Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 at ERFC (coaches usually there from 6)
